Peru: Rising fuel costs impact food and fuel prices in Tacna and Puno

Rising fuel costs and the El Niño phenomenon are driving up prices for essential goods across Peru. In Tacna, the Mercado Grau reports varied costs for food staples. Affordable options include bonito fish at S/ 3.00 per kilo, sweet potato at S/ 1.00 per kilo, and chicken at S/ 9.50 per kilo. Other meat prices include beef at S/ 20.00 per kilo and pork at S/ 13.00 per kilo. Seasonal factors have caused shortages of mackerel, horse mackerel, and silverside.

In the Puno region, Osinergmin has conducted approximately 241 inspections of fuel stations following increases in fuel prices. While the entity clarified that it does not regulate prices due to the free market system, it is monitoring stations to ensure transparency and stock availability. Diesel prices in Puno are currently oscillating between 25 and 27 soles. Osinergmin has urged citizens to use the Facilito application to report price irregularities and to purchase fuel only from formal establishments.
