Peru savings rates show only 42% of population saving money

According to the National Survey of Financial Capacities by the Superintendencia de Banca, Seguros y AFP (SBS), only 42% of Peruvians managed to save money over the last 12 months. This highlights the difficulty many citizens face in generating economic surpluses.

Financial experts emphasize the distinction between saving and investing. While saving provides a safety net for emergencies and short-term goals, investing is necessary to preserve the value of money against inflation and generate long-term returns.

When evaluating savings accounts in Peru, the Annual Effective Yield Rate (TREA) is the critical metric for comparison, as it reflects actual earnings after costs and commissions. While many market rates hover around 0.5% annually, understanding how interest capitalizes daily is essential for effective financial planning.
