Peru seismic activity prompts business preparedness advice
Following approximately 570 seismic events recorded in Peru this year by the National Seismological Center (CENSIS) of the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP), experts are urging businesses to prioritize preventive facility management.
Yanet Pardo, Maintenance and Facility Management Manager at Grupo EULEN Perú, emphasizes that earthquake preparedness must extend beyond evacuation protocols to include the structural integrity of installations and critical systems. Maintaining infrastructure helps identify vulnerabilities and prevents failures that could disrupt business continuity.
Key recommendations for companies include inspecting elements that could shift or fall—such as lighting, ceilings, shelving, and heavy furniture—to ensure they are properly secured. Additionally, businesses should verify the status of critical systems, as even if no visible damage occurs, internal system failures can prevent operations from resuming.
