Costa Rican Deputy admits error in university budget vote
In Costa Rica, Deputy Kattia Ulate of the Pueblo Soberano party admitted to making a voting error during a session of the Treasury Affairs Commission. Her vote against Motion 16 resulted in the rejection of a proposal to reallocate ¢8,048 million from the Special Fund for Higher Education (FEES) to the National Teachers' Pension and Retirement Board (Jupema).
The motion, presented by party leader Nogui Acosta, aimed to use these funds to cover employer contributions for educators' pensions. The proposal was defeated by a narrow margin of six votes against five. Ulate explained that she realized her mistake only after the voting process had concluded, preventing her from correcting it. Acosta has announced that the party will present a motion for review to attempt to reverse the outcome.
In Peru, the Senate's Constitution Commission has approved a report granting the Executive branch delegated legislative powers for 90 days. This expanded mandate covers 27 points related to citizen security and El Niño prevention, including the exceptional participation of the Armed Forces in the external security of high-risk prisons and adjustments to self-defense laws. The Senate is scheduled to debate and vote on this measure in a plenary session.
