Peru Senate denies journalists access to Mesa Directiva vote

The National Association of Journalists of Peru (ANP) reported that reporters were barred from entering the Senate chamber while members voted on the Mesa Directiva for the 2026‑2027 legislative period. According to the ANP, no dedicated space for the media had been prepared; journalists were confined to an area with three televisions broadcasting the vote and insufficient seating.

The association described the restriction as “un preocupante gesto de opacidad” (a concerning gesture of opacity) and urged the Congress of the Republic to adopt immediate measures guaranteeing appropriate conditions for press work during high‑public‑interest sessions.
