Peru Senate President orders correction of error in Law 32743

Miguel Torres, President of the Senate, has ordered an immediate errata to correct a material error in the heading of Law 32743. The law, which delegates legislative powers to the Executive branch regarding citizen security and El Niño prevention, incorrectly identified the “Senate” as the approving body instead of the “Congress”.

Torres stated that the law was approved by both chambers and that correcting the error is a matter of transparency and institutional respect. The error has drawn criticism from constitutional experts, such as Natale Amprimo and Aníbal Quiroga, who noted that the wording incorrectly attributed the law solely to the Senate rather than the Congress as a whole.

Legal experts warned that the mistake reflects issues in the application of the bicameral system and could have institutional implications. Additionally, the publication has faced scrutiny regarding missing signatures from the Chamber of Deputies, leading to legal complaints filed with the Public Ministry.
