Mishel Mancheno resumes presidency of Ecuador's National Assembly

Mishel Mancheno is set to resume her duties as President of the National Assembly on August 12, 2026, following a maternity leave that began on June 24. Her return concludes the interim leadership of Esteban Torres.

Mancheno’s immediate agenda includes reviewing administrative work and a legislative agenda consisting of 34 projects. Key priorities include reforms to the Organic Monetary and Financial Code to protect banking users by prohibiting interest on interest and limiting late fees. Additionally, she intends to advance the ‘Anti-Mafia Law,’ which seeks to reform the Organic Integral Penal Code and other judicial laws to target criminal organizations' finances and tighten precautionary measures.
