Peru convicts former Firefighters Corps executives for corruption
A Peruvian court has sentenced former executives of the Cuerpo General de Bomberos Voluntarios del Perú, Mario Casaretto and César Acosta, for corruption. The ruling follows irregular contracts issued in 2011 for unexecuted works in Villa María del Triunfo.
Casaretto, the former Logistics Director, and Acosta, the former first chief of the Villa María del Triunfo Fire Company, received six-year suspended prison sentences. Two service providers, José Cueto and Mario Carrión, were also sentenced to five years of suspended prison time. All involved have been disqualified from holding public office for the same duration as their sentences and must pay a joint civil reparation of S/ 23,688 to the State.
