Peru reports growth in agricultural, mining, and energy sectors
Peru is experiencing significant growth across several key economic sectors during the first half of 2026. In the agricultural sector, table grape exports reached US$ 790 million, a 17.1% increase compared to 2025, with the United States remaining the primary market. Strawberry exports also rose by 35.5%, reaching US$ 21 million. Overall, fruit exports totaled US$ 3,158 million, a 15.4% increase from the previous year.
The mining sector continues to be a major economic driver. Fiscal collection from mining rose 80.1% year-on-year, totaling over 22.7 billion soles. Experts from the Institute of Mining Engineers of Peru suggest that by reducing bureaucracy and improving legal certainty, the country could reach annual mining investments of US$ 10 billion. Copper remains a strategic pillar due to global energy transition demands.
In the energy sector, Peru has 33 electricity generation projects in execution, representing an estimated investment of US$ 6.5 billion. These projects aim to add over 5,000 MW of capacity through 2036. Additionally, 52 transmission projects worth over US$ 3 billion are being managed to strengthen the national electrical system.
