Peru to elect 13,148 regional and municipal officials on Oct 4

Peruvian voters will go to the polls on Sunday 4 October for the regional and municipal elections (ERM 2026). The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) says 13,148 authority positions will be contested, including 25 governors, 25 vice‑governors, 364 regional councilors, 196 provincial mayors, 1,696 district mayors, 1,724 provincial councilors and 9,118 district councilors. More than 800,000 citizens will be selected as poll workers, with training sessions scheduled for 20 and 27 September, and over 26.3 million voters are on the electoral roll.

ONPE's latest electoral analysis reports that 83 political organisations (53 parties and 28 regional movements) initially qualified to compete. After forming alliances, the field is expected to consist of 41 parties, 23 movements and 10 alliances (five national, five regional). The report notes a historic low in the number of regional movements and highlights changes such as the removal of horizontal parity and data on women, youth and indigenous participation.
