Peru to reschedule public holidays to Mondays starting 2027

The Peruvian government has announced a plan to reorganize the national holiday calendar starting in 2027. Under the proposed measure, public holidays falling between Tuesday and Friday will be moved to the nearest Monday to create predictable long weekends.

President Keiko Fujimori clarified that the total number of holidays will neither increase nor decrease, aiming to dispel rumors regarding the elimination of rest days. The reorganization is intended to boost domestic tourism and optimize national productivity by preventing mid-week disruptions to the production chain.

Finance Minister Elmer Cuba noted that moving holidays to Mondays specifically protects Saturday business activities. Certain dates, including July 28, Christmas, and New Year, will remain exempt from this rescheduling. Additionally, the government mentioned a potential minimum wage increase starting in October.
