Peru tourism revenue exceeds 2019 levels despite lower visitor volume

According to the 2025 Foreign Tourist Profile released by PromPerú, international visitors to Peru are spending more than in pre-pandemic years. While the total number of international arrivals currently stands at 78% of 2019 levels, the foreign exchange generated by tourism has increased by 14% compared to 2019.

On average, foreign tourists in 2025 spent US$1,232 during a 10-night stay, excluding international airfare. The data indicates a shift in booking behavior, with 84% of travelers purchasing services less than four months in advance and 67% booking services individually rather than through pre-packaged itineraries.

This trend suggests that while tourism volume has not yet fully recovered to previous levels, the economic impact per visitor is higher, benefiting various sectors including restaurants, transport, and local commerce.
