Peru tourism sector faces regulatory and informality challenges

The tourism sector in Peru is facing various operational and regulatory challenges. Efforts are underway by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR) to address critical issues at major destinations like Machu Picchu.

Key concerns include the rise of informality in adventure tourism, specifically regarding hiking routes in Cusco and Huacachina. Authorities are working to establish workgroups to manage conflicts, such as the prohibition of tubular vehicles on dunes, and to address pending issues regarding porters on the Inca Trail and Salkantay routes. Additionally, there is a need for better organization of services in areas like Rainbow Mountain and the Cordillera Blanca.
