Peruíbe dog attack results in death of small pet and injuries to owner
A small dog named Pi died on Thursday after being attacked by a pitbull during a walk in the Estância São José neighborhood of Peruíbe, on the coast of São Paulo. The incident occurred around midnight on Sunday, when the owner encountered the pitbull roaming free on the street.
While attempting to protect her pet by picking him up, the 35-year-old owner was also attacked by the pitbull, sustaining injuries to her arms, abdomen, and chest. A passerby intervened to assist the woman and helped transport the injured dog to a veterinary clinic. Despite four days of medical treatment, the small dog succumbed to severe injuries, including spinal damage, a fractured femur, and internal bleeding.
The owner of the pitbull reportedly stated that the animal was docile and escaped from a residence after a gate was left open. The Public Security Secretariat (SSP-SP) confirmed that the case has been registered at the Peruíbe Police Station as a misdemeanor and bodily injury, and investigations are ongoing.
