Perugia councilor investigated for social media defamation

The Terni Prosecutor's Office has placed a 53-year-old woman under investigation for defamation following a Facebook post targeting Margherita Scoccia, a local councilor for Fratelli d'Italia in Perugia.

In April 2025, the woman allegedly commented on an article regarding Scoccia's children, calling the councilor a “fascist” and stating, “I wish Margherita Scoccia the same fate as Benito Mussolini.” Scoccia filed a complaint with the postal police, characterizing the message as “full of hate” rather than legitimate political dissent.

Following a digital investigation by the Cyber Security Operations Center, which included analyzing log files, the suspect was identified. Public Prosecutor Camilla Coraggio has charged the woman with defamation, including the aggravating factor of using online publication to commit the act. A court hearing is scheduled for March 3, 2027, before Judge Simona Tordelli in Terni.
