Perugia holds ceremonies marking Italian Unification

Commemorative ceremonies were held in Perugia at Porta Sant’Antonio and Porta Santa Margherita to mark the city's liberation from papal rule. These sites serve as symbols of the historical actions taken by the Bersaglieri and Granatieri, which paved the way for the city's annexation to Italy.

Representing the municipal administration, Vice Mayor Marco Pierini attended the events on behalf of Mayor Vittoria Ferdinandi. Other notable attendees included Senator Emma Pavanelli, Colonel Stefano Silvestrini of the Umbria Army Military Command, and Major Roberta Cozzolino of the Carabinieri.

During the ceremony at Porta Sant’Antonio, which featured the Fanfare of the 11th Bersaglieri Regiment, Francesco Pinelli, president of the Borgo Sant’Antonio-Porta Pesa association, honored historical figures such as Luigi Masi. Pinelli emphasized the importance of civil responsibility and unity derived from the young heroes of the past.
