Perugia Prosecutor General discusses judicial career separation reform
Sergio Sottani, Prosecutor General at the Court of Appeal in Perugia, has addressed the proposed constitutional reform regarding the separation of judicial careers in Italy. During a roundtable at the University of Perugia, Sottani clarified that the proposal is not a standard justice reform aimed at accelerating trials or reducing judicial errors, but rather a reform of the judicial system itself.
The reform seeks to alter the constitutional structure by separating the currently unified body of the judiciary into two distinct entities: those responsible for investigation and those responsible for adjudication. Sottani noted that while proponents argue this will indirectly improve judicial quality, the change fundamentally shifts the organizational framework of the magistracy.
