Perugia stadium renamed to honor coach Ilario Castagner

On 28 July, the municipal authorities of Perugia held a ceremony to co‑name the city’s Santa Giuliana stadium after the late football coach Ilario Castagner. The venue will now bear the title “Stadio Santa Giuliana – Ilario Castagner”.

The naming recognizes Castagner’s role in leading Perugia to its first Serie B promotion in 1974‑75 and to an unbeaten Serie A season in 1978‑79 that finished second, the club’s highest ever league position.

The event was attended by mayor Vittoria Ferdinandi, prefect Francesco Zito, sports assessor Pierluigi Vossi, regional officials and members of Castagner’s family, who thanked the city for the tribute.
