Perugia to host National Assembly of Cities for Peace

The National Assembly of Cities for Peace is scheduled to take place in Perugia on October 9 and 10, 2026. The event marks the 40th anniversary of the foundation of the National Coordination of Local Authorities for Peace and Human Rights, which was established in Perugia in 1986.

Local administrators, mayors, and representatives from across Italy will gather to discuss the role of cities in fostering peace and addressing social inequalities. The assembly aims to establish a new political agenda for cities in response to global trends such as increased military spending, the weakening of international law, and rising geopolitical tensions.

Participants will engage in sessions focused on building “disarmed and disarming cities.” The event emphasizes that peace is not solely a matter of international diplomacy between states but a process that begins within local communities through social inclusion, solidarity, and the protection of human rights.
