Perućica Hydroelectric Plant Shut Down for August 2026 Maintenance
Montenegro's Perućica hydroelectric plant will be completely offline from 1 to 30 August 2026 for its regular annual refurbishment. Preparations begin on 30 July with the draining of the inlet system, followed by pipeline flushing on the morning of 31 July. The plant is expected to resume operations on 1 September after the inlet system is refilled on 30 August and the pipelines are cleared the next day.
During the shutdown, routine inspections, equipment testing, part replacements, cleaning and repair of damaged inlet channels, and technical surveys will be carried out. The outage will also be used to implement capital projects that can only be undertaken when the plant is not operating. In the first half‑year, Perućica generated 577 GWh of electricity, a few percent above its planned output. EPCG warned nearby residents of possible hazards during the draining and refilling phases and urged them to avoid any activities in the affected area.
