Peru's artisanal cheese wins 12 medals at Expo Queijo Brasil 2026
Peruvian cheese producers were awarded a total of 12 medals – six gold, four silver and two bronze – at the Expo Queijo Brasil 2026 competition in Brazil. The delegation, selected by the Ministry of Development of Agriculture and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) through Agromercado, represented the country with 70 samples from 22 artisanal cheese plants across regions such as Junín, Lima, Puno, Pasco, San Martín, Piura and Arequipa. Peru finished as the top foreign performer among 19 participating nations and 23 Brazilian states.
Among the winners, La Cabrita’s “Chillón” goat cheese secured a gold medal in the fresh goat cheese category, improving on its bronze finish the previous year. The success highlights the growing quality, innovation and market potential of Peru’s artisanal cheese sector and reinforces the country’s reputation for high‑value agricultural products.
