Peru's bridge project and river flood works face federal oversight

Municipal director Carlos Rivas said the construction of a cable‑stayed bridge over the Río Chuvíscar is proceeding with all required federal permits, citing approvals from the National Water Commission (CONAGUA), the Ministry of Environment (Semarnat) and other agencies. He noted that the municipality has not received any objections from the authorities and will await any formal resolution if a complaint is filed by the environmental group Piedra Cuenca.

In the Piura region, engineers warn that the Piura River cannot handle flows above 1,900 m³ per second, a capacity insufficient for a strong El Niño event. The National Water Authority (ANA) has prepared a technical file to open a guide channel between the Ejidos dam and the Bolognesi bridge to improve drainage, pending executive funding for equipment and fuel.
