Peru's domestic tourism boom makes Lima's Magic Water Circuit the most visited attraction
Recent travel data shows a strong shift in Peruvian tourism toward long‑distance domestic trips, with more than 90% of national searches targeting far‑flung regions such as Caylloma, Huaraz, Puno and Cusco. Generation Z has driven a 700% increase in searches for Cusco, while Millennials have also shown a 400% rise, making the historic city a focal point for young travelers.
The Magic Water Circuit in Lima’s Parque de la Reserva recorded 989,000 visitors between January and April 2026, becoming the country's top‑visited site. Ninety‑five percent of those visitors were Peruvians, and the venue eclipsed traditionally popular destinations; the Paracas National Reserve received 430,559 visitors, and Machu Picchu ranked third with 391,128 visitors, the majority of whom were foreign tourists (about 80%).
International travel interest among Peruvians also climbed over 50%, with Buenos Aires, Rome, Paris and Madrid seeing the largest search growth, indicating a broader desire for deeper, longer travel experiences both at home and abroad.
