Peru's Education Ministry Deploys Temporary Classrooms to Junín After Earthquake

A magnitude‑5.1 earthquake struck the Junín region of Peru on 18‑19 July, causing five deaths, more than 5,300 displaced persons and damage to dozens of schools. In response, the Ministry of Education (Minedu) announced the delivery of 83 modular dome‑type classrooms to the affected area, with the first batch of 20 domes scheduled to arrive within days.

President Keiko Fujimori visited the disaster zone and pledged assistance, while Education Minister José Antonio Chang Escobedo oversaw the logistics. The domes, provided through the National Educational Infrastructure Program (PRONIED), are prefabricated structures equipped with furniture and solar‑radiation protection, intended to allow 44 identified schools to resume classes safely while permanent repairs are carried out.
