Peru's executive postpones review of legislative powers request
The Peruvian government, led by President Keiko Fujimori, will not submit its draft request for new legislative powers to Congress as scheduled because ministries are still reviewing the text. The Council of Ministers session that was to consider the proposal on Sunday has been postponed.
Culture Minister Alberto Beingolea said the project is being "fine‑tuned" after each ministry submitted observations, and he himself added comments from the cultural sector. He declined to disclose the specific observations while the draft is being revised and noted that the executive will wait for a final version before presenting it. Beingolea also dismissed speculation that the administration plans to close the Lugar de la Memoria, Tolerancia e Inclusión Social (LUM).
