Peru's Health Ministry Launches Digital Overhaul of Digemid

Health Minister Luis Dyer Fernández said the Ministry of Health (Minsa) is operating with technology comparable to the mid‑1990s, with many of its 7,000 facilities lacking internet access and still using paper‑based procedures. He announced a 100‑day plan to digitise the ministry and modernise the drug‑regulation agency Digemid. The strategy will introduce digital platforms to replace manual paperwork, speed up evaluation, authorization and supervision of medicines and medical devices, and strengthen controls against counterfeit products. The reforms aim to improve the supply chain, including a review of a 2022 purchase of 56 million COVID‑19 vaccine syringes, and to provide faster, safer access to medicines for Peru’s 35 million residents.
