Peru's INPE reports community service and prison violence
The National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) of Peru reported two distinct developments regarding its inmate populations. In Chincha, 28 sentenced individuals serving their penalties in freedom participated in a cleaning campaign in the Pueblo Nuevo district, removing accumulated sand from roads and bike lanes on Arica and Artemio Molina avenues.
Additionally, community work was conducted at the Central Cemetery in Tarapoto to prepare for the influx of visitors during All Saints' Day, involving 40 individuals under supervision. These programs are intended to promote social reintegration by allowing inmates to perform responsible work for the benefit of the community.
In a separate incident at the Chiclayo prison in the Lambayeque region, a fight resulted in one death and one injury. INPE identified the deceased as Jesús Alfredo Ramos, who reportedly died by hanging in his cell. Another inmate, Daniel Alexander Rodríguez Piscoya, sustained multiple cuts and was transported to Las Mercedes hospital. The Public Ministry has launched an investigation into the circumstances of the altercation.
