Peru's JEE blocks regional candidate list and admits election filing error

The Special Electoral Jury (JEE) in Piura declared the registration of the Peru Primero list for the regional council inadmissible, citing failure to meet the mandated youth‑quota and multiple irregularities in candidates' résumés. The ruling gave the lead candidate, Pedro Enrique Alama Farfán, two days to correct the observations, while rejecting a post‑submission amendment request.

Separately, the JEE’s jurisdiction in Lima Centro acknowledged an administrative mistake that omitted required incompatibility checks, allowing two sitting legislators to be listed as municipal council candidates for Renovación Popular. The error contravened electoral rules prohibiting office‑holders from running in sub‑national elections. One of the affected candidates subsequently withdrew his municipal bid.

Both decisions were referred to higher electoral authorities for corrective action, highlighting procedural shortcomings in Peru’s upcoming regional and municipal elections.
