Peru's JNE launches citizen question campaign for 2026 elections
The National Jury of Elections (JNE) has launched the ‘Pregúntale a tu candidat@’ campaign, an initiative allowing citizens to submit questions for the 2026 Regional and Municipal Elections (ERM 2026) debates. The campaign is active from August 26 to September 1, via a virtual form provided by the institution.
Questions will be addressed by candidates during debates held in Lima Metropolitan and the 25 regional capitals. The JNE aims to ensure that public concerns are represented, encouraging candidates to present proposals on issues of direct interest to the population while promoting informed voting.
To participate, individuals must be eligible to vote in the ERM 2026 and must not have current political party affiliation. Submitted questions must be clear, relevant to the specific constituency's prioritized themes, and free of insults or personal attacks. A selection committee, including JNE representatives and allied institutions, will review the submissions, prioritizing relevance, gender parity, and youth participation.
