Peru's Ministry of Education recovers school land in Breña

The Peruvian Ministry of Education (Minedu) has successfully recovered approximately 3,000 square meters of sports area at the Mariano Melgar 04 school in the Breña district. The land, which includes three synthetic grass courts, had been occupied by third parties for over 11 years, depriving more than 542 primary and preschool students of space for physical activities.

The recovery was executed through a judicial eviction order facilitated by the National Police and the Judiciary. Officials noted that the occupants' contract had expired over a decade ago, and no rent or utility payments had been made during the period of occupation. To ensure the execution of the order, a judge authorized the forced entry (descerraje) of the premises.

Minister of Education José Antonio Chang Escobedo stated that this action follows directives from President Keiko Fujimori to restore order to public schools. He indicated that this is the first of several planned interventions, with the ministry aiming to recover at least 15 more illegally occupied sports areas in schools by the end of the year.
