Peru's Ministry of Education to file criminal complaint in Talara school assault case

Peru's Ministry of Education (Minedu) has announced it will file a criminal complaint regarding the alleged sexual violence of a student at the Santa Rosa de Lima school in Talara, Piura. Education Minister José Antonio Chang confirmed that the sector's Attorney's Office will pursue the case to ensure authorities investigate and determine responsibilities, noting that legal action is appropriate even if the alleged perpetrators are minors.

The Ministry is deploying inspectors to the school to supervise institutional responses and verify the situation. Simultaneously, the Regional Education Directorate of Piura and the Talara Local Education Management Unit (UGEL) are working to ensure the student's educational continuity and provide necessary support.

The Ombudsman's Office has intervened to request urgent protection and comprehensive care for the victim. Recommendations include providing emotional support, legal assistance, and psychological and social attention through the Women's Emergency Center. The case is currently under investigation by the Public Ministry and the police.
