Glencore advances MARA project in Argentina as Peru resolves mining community dispute

In Argentina, Glencore has submitted the Environmental Impact Report (IIA) for the MARA project in Catamarca. This initiative integrates the Agua Rica deposit with Alumbrera infrastructure. The project involves a planned investment of US$4.5 billion and is expected to create over 2,000 jobs during its construction phase. Currently, the project employs 1,844 people, with local workers making up 80.5% of the workforce.

In Peru, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) facilitated a consensus between the Carpintero-Kirigueti Native Community and Pluspetrol. Following social tension regarding energy stability, the parties agreed that Pluspetrol will fund a hybrid photovoltaic plant to provide electricity. Additionally, the company will subsidize energy tariffs for 360 families starting in 2028. The community has agreed to lift protests and prioritize dialogue for future dispute resolution.
