Peru's ONPE prepares for 2026 regional and municipal elections

Peru's National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) has finalized preparations for the regional and municipal elections scheduled for October 4, 2026. The agency approved a media plan for the electoral strip, which will run from September 9 to October 1, 2026, providing political organizations with free space in digital and traditional media to broadcast their proposals.

To facilitate voter participation, ONPE has launched an online consultation platform. Citizens can use their National Identity Document (DNI) to verify their assigned polling station, table number, and whether they have been selected as a polling station member. The National Jury of Elections (JNE) reports that the electoral roll includes 26,314,724 eligible voters.

The upcoming elections will determine various regional and local authorities, including 25 regional governors, 196 provincial mayors, 1,696 district mayors, and 364 councilors. ONPE has advised voters that their polling locations may differ from previous elections and could change up until election day, emphasizing the importance of re-verifying information through the official portal.
