Argentina's BCRA ramps up dollar purchases as individual demand spikes
In June 2026 Argentine individuals bought roughly US$2.4 billion in dollars, with about 1.5 million buyers and 715 000 sellers. Net demand rose by US$233 million compared with May, and total purchases for savings in the first half of the year topped US$15 billion. The central bank continued its reserve‑building strategy, buying US$46 million on 5 July and ending July with official purchases of US$2.162 billion, the highest monthly level since the programme began. The Treasury also intervened, selling US$140 million of dollars that month. By the end of July the BCRA’s international reserves were around US$47.6 billion.
