Peru's San Martín builds sports complex as Loreto municipality cuts Maynas projects
The regional government of San Martín is advancing a modern sports infrastructure at the Jesús Alberto Miranda Calle school in Moyobamba, with more than S/ 2 million invested and construction 15 % complete. The project will add covered football and volleyball fields, a new sports slab and spectator stands for over 600 students, teachers and families.
In contrast, the municipal administration of Maynas in Loreto has removed all budget funding for three improvement projects in Iquitos and Belén, affecting a sports‑field upgrade in the Triunfo settlement, a pedestrian walkway in Shiriara and a water‑and‑sewage system in the 8 de Octubre community. The cuts eliminate roughly S/ 4.1 million originally allocated, prompting resident concern over lost services and facilities.
Both developments illustrate divergent regional priorities for public works in Peru, highlighting ongoing investment in some areas while other districts face abrupt financing withdrawals.
