Peruvian authorities launch electoral conflict prevention commission in Chincha

In Chincha, Peru, the Public Ministry participated in the installation of the Inter-institutional Commission for the Prevention of Electoral Conflicts. Led by prosecutor Karin Olivia Ore Huayllani, this working group aims to coordinate efforts between state agencies to ensure the integrity of the 2026 Regional and Municipal Elections.

The commission seeks to identify critical situations, mitigate violence, and establish immediate response protocols. The session included representatives from the Special Electoral Jury (JEE), the Decentralized Office of Electoral Processes (ODPE), local police, and municipal authorities. A work plan was approved to guide joint interventions and promote electoral education in the coming months.

Separately, in the Loreto region, the Superior Court of Justice led a coordination meeting regarding the Penitentiary Decongestion Plan for 2026-2028. This initiative involves the Public Ministry, Public Defense, and the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) to address prison overcrowding by reviewing legal mechanisms and alternative measures to pretrial detention.
