Peruvian bananas reach China via new Chancay-Shanghai maritime route

The first shipment of 19.6 tons of Peruvian bananas has arrived in China via the new Chancay-Shanghai maritime route. The cargo passed customs at the Port of Yangshan in Shanghai after a transit time of approximately 23 days.

This direct route, inaugurated in late 2024, significantly optimizes logistics by reducing transit times from the conventional 35–40 days to just 23 days. This efficiency allows for better management of fruit maturation and sales while reducing losses. Additionally, the route has lowered logistical costs by more than 20%, and the bananas entered the Chinese market duty-free.

To maintain product quality, Cosco Shipping utilized advanced cold chain technology, including smart reefers with IoT integration and controlled atmosphere (CA) technology. These systems dynamically regulate oxygen, carbon dioxide, and ethylene levels to keep the fruit in a state of latent preservation. Real-time tracking of temperature, humidity, and gas levels is available throughout the journey.
