Peruvian bishops commemorate 300 years of Saint Toribio de Mogrovejo's canonization

Peruvian bishops gathered at the Lima Cathedral for a solemn Mass to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the canonization of Saint Toribio de Mogrovejo. The ceremony, presided over by Cardinal Carlos Castillo, Archbishop of Lima, included the Apostolic Nuncio to Peru, Monsignor Paolo Rocco Gualtieri, and members of the Peruvian Episcopal Conference.

The event also marked the conclusion of the 130th Plenary Assembly of the Peruvian Episcopate. During his homily, Cardinal Castillo invoked the legacy of Saint Toribio as an inspiration for a missionary and accessible Church. He emphasized the saint's history of pastoral visits, noting that they were not merely bureaucratic obligations but opportunities to connect deeply with the lives of the people.

As part of the commemorations, the relics of Saint Toribio were handed over to the Bishop of Chosica, Monsignor Jorge Izaguirre, and will subsequently travel through the suffragan dioceses of the Ecclesiastical Province of Lima.
