Peruvian business confidence falls into pessimistic territory
Business confidence in Peru has dropped into pessimistic territory for the first time during the administration of Keiko Fujimori. According to the macroeconomic expectations survey from the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP), the three-month confidence indicator fell to 49.5 points in October, a decrease of 7.3 points from September.
This decline follows a period of rising expectations that peaked in July at 62.3 points. While twelve-month projections remain in optimistic territory, they have also seen a reduction, falling from 67.6 points in September to 63.1 points in October.
Separate data from BNI Peru highlights significant operational concerns among local entrepreneurs. Approximately 42.2% of business owners report fears regarding commercial stagnation, while 33.9% expressed concern about potential business failure. Key obstacles cited include limited access to new clients, dependence on few sales channels, lack of growth planning time, and difficulties obtaining adequate financing.
