Peruvian candidates Marco Antonio Anco and Richard Baca Palacios face election scrutiny

Marco Antonio Anco, the current mayor of Paucarpata, has assumed the leadership of the Arequipa, Tradición y Futuro list for the upcoming municipal elections. Anco took over the primary candidacy following the resignation of the previous candidate, a move validated by the Jurado Nacional de Elecciones. Anco has denied allegations that his candidacy constitutes an attempt at covert reelection, asserting that his presence on the list is a legal succession intended to provide administrative stability through experienced technical staff.

As part of his platform, Anco proposed the construction of a level 2 hospital to serve Paucarpata and the Cono Sur region, noting that while such a project is typically the responsibility of the regional government, he intends to coordinate directly with the Ministry of Health.

In a separate political development in Piura, Richard Baca Palacios, the mayor of Morropón–Chulucanas and a candidate for first councilman with Alianza Para el Progreso, disclosed in his official filings that he has five judicial sentences. These include a three-year suspended sentence for document forgery issued in 2005, as well as four civil-commercial rulings in Lima.
