Peru advances 2026 election preparations and regional security discussions

Preparations for Peru’s 2026 regional and municipal elections are underway, with the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) and the National Jury of Elections (JNE) managing logistics. ONPE has begun publishing candidate posters in various jurisdictions, including Chincha, Santa, and Santa Anita, to inform voters. In Arequipa, 49 locations have been designated for training poll workers. However, challenges remain as more than 40% of regional candidates and parties have yet to submit their campaign financial reports.

In Áncash, Governor Koki Noriega has called for a meeting with President Keiko Fujimori to address rising regional insecurity following the assassination of journalist and candidate Susy Aponte Polo.

Separately, a real estate study in Lima indicates shifting consumer preferences, with 68.7% of interested buyers prioritizing location and connectivity over square footage, often opting for smaller, functional apartments with high-quality common areas.
