Peru Constitutional Court set to rule on Vladimir Cerrón habeas corpus

Peruvian Constitutional Court (TC) is expected to announce a decision on the habeas corpus filed by former president and Peru Libre leader Vladimir Cerrón, who seeks to have his 24‑month preventive detention and capture order lifted. Media reports say the plenary already resolved the case, but the text of the ruling has not been released. Cerrón's defense argued that his stay in hiding constitutes "individual civil disobedience" and does not justify continued detention.

The proceeding has sparked internal friction at the Court. Former TC president Luz Pacheco reported procedural irregularities after the case was fast‑tracked, a draft favorable ruling briefly surfaced, and she resigned on 27 May amid disagreements among magistrates. The Court also has pending decisions on former president Ollanta Humala and former first lady Nadine Heredia.
