Peruvian Election Authority Appoints Provisional Mayor in Ancash and Disqualifies 13 Candidates in Puno

The Jurado Nacional de Elecciones (JNE) issued Resolution No. 1754-2026, temporarily removing mayor Héctor Alejandro León Castrejón of Comandante Noel, Ancash, after he requested a thirty‑day unpaid leave to run in the 2026 regional elections. The JNE appointed first‑eligible councilor Pedro Anderson Escobedo Villegas as provisional mayor and named Juan Carlos Vásquez Alayo of the Movimiento Acción Nacionalista Peruano as a temporary councilor to maintain municipal operations during the mayor’s absence.

Separately, the Special Electoral Juries (JEE) in the Puno region declared thirteen mayoral and district candidacies improper, removing them from the ballot. The disqualified candidates include Katty Torres Isidro, Luis Apaza Calla, Ismael Chambilla Cauna, Iván Acra Sirena, Rocío Guisela Gómez Paredes, Edgar Quispe Zapata, Fredy Carrizales Quispe, Percy Soncco Quispe, Marcial Platero Mamani, Richard Calisaya Mamani, Felipe Ccasa Béjar, Dámaso Luciano Cervantes Alarcón, and Pedro Quispe Calcina, representing various local parties.
