Peruvian filmmakers launch initiatives to promote national cinema

Peruvian filmmakers and industry professionals are launching several initiatives to promote national cinema. Under the campaign #ElCinePeruanoEsTuCine, directors, producers, and actors from 11 different films are collaborating to increase public attendance in commercial theaters during scheduled releases between October and December 2026.

Rather than running independent promotional efforts, the participating productions—including titles such as ‘La Tribu’, ‘Los inocentes’, ‘Ekeko’, and ‘Ellas’—plan to share content like trailers and posters to boost visibility for the entire national industry. Director Eduardo Mendoza noted that while films compete for screen space, collective support can strengthen the domestic film sector.

Simultaneously, the 13th edition of the Trujillo Film Festival (FECIT) is scheduled to take place from October 16 to 24. The festival will feature 50 Peruvian films in competition, spanning feature films, shorts, fiction, and documentaries. The event includes screenings at the Dirección Desconcentrada de Cultura de La Libertad and professional workshops at the Universidad Privada Antenor Orrego. This year's festival includes a tribute to Cusco filmmaker José Carlos Huayhuaca.
