Peru's foreign minister expects Congress to back executive's delegation of powers

Foreign Minister Carlos Espá said he is confident that the Peruvian Congress will approve the executive’s request to delegate legislative powers, a move intended to enable measures against citizen insecurity. He expects even opposition parties to support the initiative and indicated that the request will be presented in the coming days, though details remain undisclosed.

The delegation request will be evaluated under international law and the 1954 Caracas Convention concerning the safe‑conduct for former cabinet chief Betssy Chávez. Business group ComexPerú welcomed the proposal, calling it an opportunity to promote investment, formal employment and broader economic reforms while reducing bureaucratic hurdles.
