Peruvian Independence Festival in Ourense, Spain attracts over 200 locals and expatriates
Around 200 people gathered at the Campo da Feira in Ourense, Spain to mark the 205th anniversary of Peru's independence (July 28, 1821). The event was organised by the Association of Peruvians of Ourense, led by president Edith Lapa, with support from the Ourense municipal council.
The festival showcased a wide range of traditional Peruvian dishes – ceviche, carapulcra, chicha morada, tacacho, juane and Lima‑style grilled meats – and featured folk music and dance performances. Lapa highlighted the celebration as a chance for cultural exchange and integration, while vice‑president Carolayme Choque emphasised that the open‑door event welcomed Spaniards, other Latin Americans and anyone interested in Peruvian culture.
