Peruvian Interior Minister César Astudillo Vows Transparent Police Budget
César Astudillo, Peru’s newly appointed Minister of the Interior, pledged to safeguard and transparently manage the budget allocated to the Policía Nacional del Perú (PNP). Speaking at a police promotion ceremony, he said the ministry will ensure strict oversight of expenditures and improve logistical equipment to boost the force’s capacity against organized crime, kidnapping, extortion and contract killings. Astudillo highlighted his collaboration with PNP commander Óscar Arriola, citing joint operations in the VRAEM region as experience that will guide urban security actions. He stressed realistic goal‑setting, teamwork within the police, and restoring public confidence through tangible results and responsible use of public funds.
