Peruvian lawmaker requests return of USAID funding

Peruvian Deputy Carmen Georgina Duarte Patiño de Pezet has called on Foreign Minister Carlos Espá to negotiate with the United States government for the return of suspended USAID funding to Peru.

During a session of the Constitutional Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, Duarte argued that the suspension of assistance from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has negatively impacted projects in agriculture, education, and poverty reduction. She also noted that the loss of funding has resulted in job losses.

Duarte emphasized the importance of USAID as a source of technological and intellectual resources. While she urged the Foreign Ministry to dialogue with U.S. representatives to restore these funds, Minister Espá did not provide a specific response regarding potential management to reinstate the assistance.
