Peruvian lawmakers Pier Figari and Jessica Navas involved in legal proceedings
Peruvian lawmaker Pier Figari has filed a civil lawsuit seeking 2 million soles in compensation from prosecutors and judges involved in the ‘Cócteles’ case. Figari, a member of Fuerza Popular, seeks damages for alleged patrimonial and non-patrimonial harm suffered during his investigation and 19-month preventive detention. The lawsuit targets prosecutor José Domingo Pérez, superior prosecutor Rafael Vela, and judges Richard Concepción Carhuanchoy and Víctor Zúñiga. A virtual conciliation hearing is scheduled for September 4.
Separately, the Judiciary has ordered lawmaker Jessica Navas to pay 150,000 soles in civil reparation to the State. While Navas was acquitted of criminal charges of embezzlement and misappropriation related to a tourism project in Ucayali, the court ruled she must pay the amount jointly with two other defendants. The case involved the unauthorized purchase of vehicles for a project at Lake Yarinacocha.
