Peruvian mayoral candidates propose urban and tourism reforms
In Peru, local mayoral candidates are presenting various urban development and infrastructure proposals.
In Desaguadero, Edgar Pari Sarmiento of the Progresemos party has proposed investing approximately S/400,000 to build a viewpoint overlooking Lake Titicaca, the Andes, and Mount Khapia. The goal is to increase tourism duration in the border city. However, Pari also acknowledged that the district faces significant challenges regarding commercial disorder and heavy vehicle congestion caused by its status as a border zone, which he intends to prioritize through urban reorganization.
In Pocollay, candidate Elvis Mamani of Perú Primero is advocating for the relocation of the Pocollay prison, the municipal slaughterhouse, and the local red-light district. Mamani argues that these facilities hinder investment and damage the district's image. He also proposed declaring the Pocollay countryside intangible to protect agricultural land from urban expansion and criticized current irrigation methods used in central sectors.
